What is Epaderm Ointment?

Epaderm Ointment is a rich, 3-in-1 emollient designed to treat very dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis. It can be used as a moisturiser, bath additive, and skin cleanser, making it a flexible option for daily skincare. Its grease-rich formula helps restore the skin barrier and lock in moisture, especially for severely dry or cracked skin. It is suitable for all ages, including babies.

How does it work?

Epaderm Ointment contains yellow soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, and emulsifying wax. Together, these ingredients:

  • Soften dry, flaky skin
  • Create a long-lasting barrier to retain moisture
  • Protect the skin from further irritation

It is free from preservatives, fragrances, and colours, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.

How to use Epaderm Ointment

  • As a moisturiser: Apply generously to dry skin as often as needed.
  • As a cleanser: Scoop out a small amount and use with warm water instead of soap.
  • As a bath additive: Dissolve a spoonful in a bowl of hot water, then add to bathwater to disperse.
  • Use regularly, especially after bathing, to maintain skin hydration.

Who can use it?

Epaderm Ointment is suitable for babies, children, and adults. It's ideal for people with:

  • Severe dry skin or scaling
  • Eczema or psoriasis
  • Contact dermatitis or ichthyosis
  • Fragrance or preservative sensitivity

Side effects

Side effects are rare but may include:

  • Blocked pores or greasy skin (especially on the face)
  • Mild irritation or allergic reaction

Always patch test on a small area if using for the first time.

Epaderm Ointment vs Epaderm Cream: What's the difference?

Both products are part of the Epaderm range and designed to treat dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis. The main difference is their texture, strength, and how they are used:

  • Epaderm Ointment: Greasy, thick formula. Offers intense hydration and forms a strong moisture barrier. Can also be used as a cleanser and bath additive. Best for severe dryness or nighttime use.
  • Epaderm Cream: Light, non-greasy moisturiser. Absorbs quickly and is suitable for daily or daytime use, especially on the hands and face.

You can use both together, for example, Epaderm Cream in the morning and Epaderm Ointment at night or after bathing for extra hydration.
