What Is Mirvaso Gel?

Mirvaso Gel is a prescription-only treatment used to reduce persistent facial redness caused by rosacea in adults. It contains the active ingredient brimonidine tartrate, which works by narrowing the blood vessels in the skin to reduce visible flushing and redness.

Applied once daily, Mirvaso begins working within 30 minutes and can provide results that last up to 12 hours. It is not a cure for rosacea, but it offers effective control of one of its most distressing symptoms—facial redness.

How Does Mirvaso Gel Work?

Brimonidine tartrate is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. It works by causing the small blood vessels in the face to constrict (narrow), which reduces blood flow and visible redness. This action begins within 30 minutes of application and helps reduce the appearance of flushing associated with rosacea.

How to Use Mirvaso Gel

Apply a small, pea-sized amount of Mirvaso Gel once a day to clean, dry skin. Divide the amount between the forehead, chin, nose, and both cheeks, then gently smooth it evenly across the face. Avoid contact with the eyes, lips, and inside of the nose.

Always wash your hands after application and allow the gel to dry fully before applying moisturiser or makeup.

It is important to start slowly for at least 1 week as some people may experience an initial increase in redness or flushing. If this occurs, it is advisable to reduce the frequency of application until your skin adjusts.

Who Can Use Mirvaso?

Mirvaso is suitable for adults diagnosed with rosacea who experience persistent facial redness. It is not intended for children under 18 or for people with certain heart or blood pressure conditions. If you are unsure whether Mirvaso is right for you, speak to a healthcare professional before starting treatment.

Side Effects and Precautions

Most people tolerate Mirvaso Gel well, but some may experience side effects. Common side effects include:
